Although, I do not have any tattoos due to ink allergies, I have always been an admirer of this art technique. You have to be a very talented artist to be able to draw realistic images on skin (especially because skin textures are so varied). A good example is the dark-style tattoos of Victor Portugal.

SeolykDisgusting! It’s ironic that cutting one’s self is considered anti-social behavior, when permanently scarring one’s self with ink is considered an art form.

ChrisYou can class it as self harm but generally people that self harm hide it from other people

suicidekingJust because it is not for you, doesn’t mean it is disgusting. Shame on you for judging.

bethSo true tattoos are really just body mutilation.

charleyNot even close to the same! Tattooing traces back to the earliest days of man and meaning many things such as tribal and familial information. Some people get some pretty disgusting things tattooed on themselves, but that is totally different from the motivations of cutters. Cutting is a symptom of deep emotional issues that have nothing to do with the reasons someone decorates themselves with ink. Recipients of ink seldom need the services of shrinks and medications required to stop self-mutilation. Not liking something does not equate with knowing anything about a subject.

SamBecause… you know. Cutting ones self isn’t harm to you at all and tattoos is a straight sign of suicidal thoughts. Yeah. Mhm.
Tattoos have been around for ages. If you don’t like it, fine.
Cutting has been as well. But it’s not seen as a style, it’s seen as a harm. Something mentally wrong with a person. Your logic is very flawed if think you can merely compare the two completely different topics with one another.

Missus SI think tattoos are away of expressing yourself as well as showing emotion.
I have one, I got it when I was 17. My mum hates it! But still she doesn’t judge. It’s a personnal decision just like everything everyone chooses in life. I wouldn’t judge someone’s home decor if I wasn’t keen on it. That would be rude. Same would go for a tattoo.
Self harming is a mental disorder, it’s something people do for various reasons… Getting inked is not a mental disorder.
I think it’s a shame that in today’s society of about moving forward, people are still prejudice.

PatYou’re so misguided with what you think. Don’t comment on something you don’t understand.

DylanTattoos can be dated back to the ice man (they found completely frozen). The oldest human that has been found frozen with skin on him… he had tattoos and they believe it was for a medical reason. They were all on his joints were they believe he had arthritis. People can judge all they want on tattoos. It is a work of art. You can paint on a canvas and it’s always the same… you can tattoo skin and it’s never the same.
You can count it as self-mutilation, but you’re not really pointing any facts. If you have your ears pierced is that consider self-mutilation, a form of art, or decorating? Tattoos can express someone’s personality or their life. It can express many things. If you cut get surgery wouldn’t that be considered self-mutilation? Think about what the argument is about? Anyone can call it whatever they want. People have opinions and this is a free country. But I am a tattoo artist. If it was self-mutilation, why am I called a tattoo artist and not a tattoo mutilator? Don’t just be one-sided. I’ve seen people get tattoos that are stupid and meaningless to them, and I’ve given some. They think it’s cool. Every tattoo though is a work of art. No matter how you want to look at it. You draw. You scale down or scale up. So please don’t judge the way it’s done… judge the art that’s on the body. Would you judge a painting on a canvas? People are my canvas. If you don’t have one or believe that tattoos are a negative thing. Then don’t get one. Just don’t bash the people that enjoy the art.

Maria“Because… you know. Cutting ones self isn’t harm to you at all and tattoos is a straight sign of suicidal thoughts. Yeah. Mhm.”
Cutting as a form of self-injury is not always indicative of passive or active suicidal ideation. Meaning, not everyone who cuts has suicidal thoughts. They do, however, have thoughts of harming themselves–which, like active suicidal ideation, is enough to be put on a 72 hour hold in a hospital in the U.S.
The more you know. :3
(P.S. People with tattoos have none of these thoughts or problems, I agree.)

EatTheRichThe main difference between people who have tattoos and people who do not (especially the ones who cut themselves) is that people with tattoos are cool.

KymiSSo some ignorant, small minded and just plain rude comments aside, there some incredible work here!
He is a very talented artist, I don’t understand how someone’s intolerance can shadow their sight so much as to not see that.
I will need to drop in next time I am in Poland
Nice collection, well found!
