The Hinges look like real hinges so this is considered an optical illusion.

You’re doing it wrong. It’s not meant to seal the box. You’re supposed to put it on the bend or fold of the box lid or envelope. Duh!!
The lacing, zipper, stiches & nail idea above would be better suited for sealing the box.
