So, you are wondering what is so special about this man’s face? It is a hyperrealist sculpture by Jamie Salmon, who uses materials such as silicone rubber, fibre glass, acrylic and human hair. Incredible detail!

Notes from the artist (from bio):
I like to use the human form as a way of exploring the nature of what we consider to be “real” and how we react when our visual perceptions of this reality are challenged. In our modern society we have become obsessed with our outward appearance, and now with modern technology we are able to alter this in almost anyway we desire. How does this outward change affect us and how we are perceived by others?

AerynSo then what you mean is that it IS a photo, but that it’s a photo of a sculpture and not of a human being. So many better ways to phrase this headline and story. Good work.

jermsorry but this is a real photo. just not a photo of a real person. probably a good clarification to make.

DavePlease proofread your articles. It IS a photo. It’s just not a photo of a real person.

AdrianaThanks for the notes. I agree with what you are saying. I was thinking “photography,” but in another sense, and didn’t explain myself well enough. Edits have been made for clarification.
My apology for the mistake.

SuhasiniThe sculptures are so realistic & awesome that one finds it difficult to categorize these art work between the artificial stuff & the real stuff! Hoping to see more & more of creativity with the help of “SCIENCE”!

Colin PeriniHow far does the art of sculpting go? It is more real than than real life.

ilikeitloudThe one thing that detracts from the realism of the sculptures is the absense of veins in the whites of the eyes. But aside from that, they look AMAZING!

WiremuMEAN!!! These are so realistic that this idea popped into my head. You can almost fake your funeral if you did a sculpture of yourself inside a coffin. That’s freaky!!! you’ll spark up a big conversation between the art world and reality. These sculptures are in another world!!!

TashIt’s hard to wrap your mind around them being sculptures. But no wonder they’re so perfect! Look how huge they are compared to the artist! Wonder how much these cost to create.

HannahI find it amusing that people have had to point out that this is a “photo” of a sculpture because if no one had done that I am sure no one would have guessed that it wasn’t the actual sculpture on their computer screens!
Happy to see that a Ron Mueck link was posted here for those that have not seen his work before. He has been doing this type of hyper-real sculpture for at least 16yrs now. Simply incredible works from both of these artists.
